"Seattle Jazz Legends" back for an encore concert!
Due to the great success of its sold-out performance in January, “Seattle Jazz Legends in Concert” will return for an encore performance, on Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Triple Door, located at 216 Union St. in downtown Seattle.
The concert will feature special guest artists including four-time Grammy Award-nominated vocalist Ernestine Anderson, bassist Buddy Catlett (who toured with Quincy Jones, in addition to playing on Louis Armstrong's band for almost a decade and recording with Frank Sinatra on "Fly Me to the Moon"), Ronnie Pierce (who has been performing in Seattle for over 60 years and who has performed with everyone from the Mills Brothers to Ray Charles), drummer George Griffin (who performed with Jimi Hendrix, Etta James, and Lionel Hampton), keyboardist/vocalist Dave Holden (son of local jazz legend Oscar Holden), and pianist/vocalist Overton Berry (a mainstay in the Pacific Northwest for over 50 years).
The concert is being filmed as part of the feature-length documentary project, In Between the Raindrops, which will showcase the above artists' performances and interviews, in addition to interviews with such greats as musical impresario Quincy Jones and notable trumpeter/flugelhorn player Clark Terry, a mentor to jazz great Miles Davis. The film, co-produced by Jessica Davis and Joe Andolina, pays tribute to these historical jazz figures and highlights Seattle's rich jazz history of the 40's and 50's. The concert will be open to the public, with a general admission price of $20. Tickets are available by phone at 206-838-4333, online at www.thetripledoor.net, and at the door on the day of the show.
In conjunction with the upcoming concert, the Northwest African American Museum is currently presenting an exhibition called “After Hours,” through Dec. 26, that explores the ways in which the clubs, performers, and music shaped the rhythms of Seattle, Portland and Spokane from the 1930's-60's. The exhibition includes 70 photographs, 50 artifacts, a variety of educational interactives, and the trailer for In Between the Raindrops. The museum is located at 2300 S. Massachusetts St. in Seattle. For more information about the exhibit, call 206-518-6000 or visit www.naamnw.org.

Following the concert, there will be an after-party at Lucid, located at 5241 University Way N.E. in Seattle. The party will include an open jazz jam, as well as an opportunity to meet a number of the artists featured in the concert and documentary.
